Portraits in the Park – Part 2
April 7, 2009
On Saturday, March 28, Howard and I spent the day at Alamo Creek Park in Vacaville. It was day two of our “Portrait in the Park” Photo shoot with the MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) group from Covenant Community Church.
Our first appointment was a “no show” which was disappointing at first, however, having the extra time allowed us time to truly appreciate the beauty and brilliance of the day. The following photograph, shows the vibrant blues and greens that surrounded us. It captures the warmth of the colors, however it does not capture the physical warmth of the day and the clean fresh scent in the air.

While walking around, I discovered a bench with a very special dedication. It was dedicated to Ed Lauck. A few years ago, when Howard was facing some medical challenges, I received a lot of emotional support from members of Covenant Community Church, where I work as the administrative assistant. One of my “supporters” was Gloria, who introduced me to her husband, Ed. Ed had gone through similar heart procedures several years earlier and so he and Gloria knew exactly what Howard and I were gong through, and thus were able to provide the perfect comfort.
Sadly, Ed passed away a couple of years later, but he and Gloria still have a special place in my heart. Seeing the bench that had been lovingly dedicated to Ed brought back all the warmth and kindness that I had experienced with them. What a magical moment to just sit on that bench and take in the glory of the day.

While we were waiting for our first client to arrive, Howard starting taking some pictures of a little boy who was at the park with his mother. Once he realized he was being photographed, his curiosity turned to Howard. He mimicked everything Howard did, making this little boy very entertaining!
Soon, our first client arrived. Howard had the opportunity to photograph three children, elementary to high school aged. Talk about fun! They enthusiastically did everything we asked them to do and even came up with a few great ideas themselves! The youngest girl, Sarah, was a natural poser…she even had the “flick” of her hair just right!
Shorty after Howard finished with that family, we had our last family of the day. Chloe, an 8 month old was ready to dazzle us with hew smile. What an amazing family. The adoration between mom, dad, and daughter was clearly evident with every shot!
All in all, it was a fabulous day of pictures, sunshine, and laughter. The day could not have been more perfect! Stay tuned…as soon as I get releases from parents, I’ll be able to get some photos of the kids up for you to see!
